Farm type: Beef, 140 acres, rearing 400 calves annually
Location:  Woodcroft, Bangor-on-Dee, Wrexham, LL13 0BH
Salary: £12.21 hour
Contract: Saturdays 11am to 7.30pm, Wednesday/Thursday and Fridays (flexible with business needs) 20 hours a week.

Placement overview

This placement is designed for individuals from non-agricultural backgrounds who are interested in gaining practical experience in animal care and outdoor work. You’ll become part of the daily farm team, helping to care for a variety of animals and supporting the smooth running of farm operations.
The placement provides an excellent opportunity to build confidence, develop new skills, and gain a real insight into working life in an agricultural setting. No previous farming experience is required, just enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, and a love of the outdoors.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with daily farm operations including feeding, watering, and caring for livestock.

  • Support with planting, harvesting, and maintaining fruit, vegetables, and herbs in line with seasonal cycles.

  • Help maintain farm infrastructure such as fencing, pathways, polytunnels, and growing areas.

  • Contribute to sustainable farming practices such as composting, waste management, and water conservation.

  • Support educational sessions and community activities delivered on-site, helping visitors engage with farming and food production.

  • Monitor crop and animal health, report any issues to supervisors, and assist in record-keeping.

  • Work safely and responsibly in line with Agri-cation’s health and safety policies.

Cheryl Reeves, a highly experienced bio-chemist who manages a 200-head beef finishing enterprise with her husband Andrew near Bangor-on-Dee. Cheryl oversees all aspects of the farm, from staff leadership and animal welfare to farm inspections, nutrition monitoring, and administrative tasks, all while expertly balancing these demands with an award-winning diversification business, Agri-cation CIC. She is proficient in using modern technology, including an automated calf-rearing system that handles 400 calves annually, and EID software for cattle performance management. Additionally, the Agri-cation CIC initiative, which educates the public and supports individuals with additional learning needs and unemployment, highlights Cheryl's deep passion for the industry and education. With expertise in operational excellence, business planning, and health and safety, Cheryl is eager to share her comprehensive knowledge to help new entrants successfully drive their careers forward.
