Glyn Arthur Project Update - June 2024
Mineral Feed Bucket Removal (30/05/24): Mineral feed buckets were removed to evaluate their impact on flock performance and mineral levels, allowing for a data-driven assessment of their necessity.
Blood Testing of Lambs (21/06/24): Blood tests were conducted on lambs suspected of clostridial deaths, with results pending. This investigation aims to identify potential disease risks and inform preventative measures. Post mortems of growing lambs have revealed clostridial diseases to be the main cause of death in this age group.
Faecal Egg Count (FEC): have revealed varying amounts of gastrointestinal nematodes with regular samples being taken to determine the optimum time for treatment and to monitor the success of any anthelmintics administered.
Upcoming Activities:
BCS, Blood Tests, and FEC Sampling (24/07/24): Ewes and ewe lambs will undergo BCS assessment and blood testing for trace elements. Additionally, faecal egg counts (FEC) will be conducted on lambs to monitor parasite burden and inform targeted worming strategies. The rearing percentage will also be calculated and assessed.
