Emyr Wyn Owen
Emyr Owen manages the day-to-day operations of Rhug Estate's organic farm which involves a diverse range of livestock enterprises including Sheep, Beef, Poultry, Bison, and Parkland Deer.
Rhug Estate has diversified extensively over the last 25 years to include a meat wholesale and retail business servicing Michelin star restaurants and hotels in London, the Middle East and Asia. They also have an onsite farm shop and drive through takeaway.
In addition to his role at Rhug, Emyr is also involved in a share farming joint venture in partnership with his neighbour on his family farm where they milk 450 cows on a spring calving system.
Emyr values work-life balance and enjoys spending time with his wife and young children.
His goals for the short to medium term include preparing the farm for future uncertainties. Developments include significant investments in grazing infrastructure, potentially adding a dairy enterprise, and exploring new sheep breeds.
Emyr believes in peer-to-peer learning and is hoping that the Agri Academy will provide ideas and experiences that will enable him to return to his business with a fresh set of eyes and enthusiasm to take on the next set of challenges and opportunities.
