Michael Humphreys
Abermule, Powys
Michael Humphreys is a young and ambitious farmer who runs a 400-acre mixed farm in Powys. He took over the farm from his uncle in 2019 to become the majority share partner and has since expanded the acreage and production.
He manages sheep, cattle, and pig enterprises and also grows crops such as fodder beet and maize to feed his livestock. The farm produces Wagyu beef which is sold directly to a wholesaler. His main grazing method is rotational grazing, enabling him to maximise the number of animals finished on forage only.
After gaining a degree in Agriculture with Business Management at the University of Reading, Michael moved to Australia and spent time working on a cattle station in the outback.
A skilled shearer, Michael shears all of their own sheep, as well as running a small contract shearing round. Outside of farming, his greatest enjoyment is playing football.
Michael's future plans include becoming more efficient in his farming practices and to start selling more of his produce directly to consumers. In the long term, he is exploring the feasibility of converting his farm to a spring block calving, once-a-day milking enterprise.
Michael is looking forward to meeting like-minded individuals with the same hunger for business development and personal growth.
