Dafydd Taliesin Rhys Davies
Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys
Dafydd Davies believes that agriculture is central to the communities and culture of Wales. Currently studying Land-based Engineering Level 3 at Coleg Sir Gar Gelli Aur campus, his long-term aim is to combine farming with design and engineering activities. He’s already gaining practical engineering experience, through a part-time placement with a local tractor supplier, where he enjoys helping customers and working as part of a team.
Dafydd lives on an upland beef and sheep farm near Llanwrtyd Wells. Working with stock is his passion, usually with his trusty sheepdog alongside, when not in college or working. He has represented the YFC at county level in the senior woodwork competition and while still at school, one of his design projects, connected with marking lambs, was nominated for the Wales Innovation Awards.
His long-term plan is to find a farm tenancy, which he hopes to combine with running his own small engineering or fabrication business.
“I’m interested in agricultural innovation and would love the chance to travel overseas so visiting Norway, renowned for its efficient farming systems, will be a highlight of the Agri Academy for me.
“This is the chance of a lifetime and I can’t wait to meet new friends, swap ideas and learn from the experts I meet!”
