Ioan Stephen Humphreys

Carno, Powys

His Insta identity is ‘That Welsh Farmer’ and he has over 50,000 followers! Aged 32, Ioan Humphreys shares a lot of what he gets up to at his thriving mixed enterprise in Carno, Powys managing 800 ewes, 25 beef cattle, and more recently, poultry. Taking over the family farm at just 20 due to family circumstances, Ioan has led the business through significant growth and diversification. In 2019, he introduced a 32,000-bird free-range egg unit, expanding the farm’s income streams and creating six part-time jobs.

Married with two young children, Ioan combines hands-on farming with a strong business mindset. While he prefers the practical work with sheep and cattle, he values the poultry unit for its predictability and efficiency. The 500-acre farm operates three distinct units - sheep, cattle, and poultry – each treated as an individual business, enabling focused management.

Determined to futureproof the business, Ioan is currently investing in a 150kW solar panel installation to reduce costs and enhance sustainability. He is also preparing a planning application for a farm shop and café on-site to further diversify the business.

Ioan enjoys the gym and playing football, maintaining balance and energy for both work and home life. Committed to continuous improvement, he is keen to learn from others in the industry.

“The Agri Academy will enable me to introduce new ideas and a fresh perspective on the way we run the business.”
