Marcus Ferraro
Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire
Since returning home in 2014 due to unforeseen family circumstances, Marcus Ferraro, a focused and determined dairy farmer, has transformed the family business into a thriving, progressive 300-cow unit. Initially setting out on a career in the dairy industry after deciding university wasn’t the right path, he has demonstrated resilience, drive and a deep passion for sustainable farming.
Alongside running the dairy enterprise, he also established a foliar feeding and fertiliser company focused on helping farmers reduce their reliance on artificial nitrogen. With a strong interest in the links between animal performance and crop health, he believes data-driven decisions and clear KPIs - such as 21-day calving rates - are vital for success in today’s volatile agricultural landscape.
Keen to embrace change and innovation, Marcus actively seeks out opportunities to upskill and supports staff development within his team. His future goals include improving soil health, reducing exposure to market volatility, and sharing knowledge to help others transition to more sustainable systems.
“I see the Agri Academy as a vital opportunity to expand my knowledge, challenge my thinking, grow through shared experiences, and continue my personal and business development journey, outside a formal academic setting.
“Challenged by erratic weather and in a changing world, farmers must learn new skills, strategies and solutions to live through them.”
