Evaluation of phosphate sources with homegrown cereals in relation to farm nutrient balance and environmental footprint
This project will investigate if using protected phosphate (Origin Enhanced-P, or OEP) in compound fertiliser for spring barley, alongside farmyard manure (FYM) incorporation, can boost phosphate uptake, leading to better nutrient efficiency, crop establishment, yields, and ultimately, return on investment. The trial will take place in a consistent spring barley field, divided into three treatments: one receiving FYM, lime, and standard compound fertiliser; another receiving FYM, lime, and compound fertiliser with protected phosphate (OEP); and a control strip with only FYM and lime.
The project will also contribute to the Sustainable Land Management outcomes including:
- Maximise carbon storage
- Reduced GHG emissions
- Resource efficient
