Focus Site Project: Implementing a Mastitis Management Plan on farm
Project aims:
- By following the AHDB mastitis control plan for the past three years, clinical mastitis cases at Nant Goch have been reduced by 50% and Somatic Cell Count has also decreased drastically. The project will continue to implement and monitor the mastitis control plan for another year and demonstrate the cost benefits of management changes.
- Target to decrease clinical cases of mastitis from 50% to 30%.
- Aim to continue to reduce antibiotic use in mastitis control in the herd and implement a selective approach to antibiotic dry cow therapy.
- Key strategic objectives: Improved productivity and cost management; improve business resilience; improve animal lifetime productivity; increasing the use of ICT for improved business efficiency.
