Project Update December 2024

• Red and white clover leys established late summer at Cwmcowddu using two methods:
  • Conventional Method: Plough, cultivate, and reseed approach for both red and white clover.
  • Direct Drill Method: Applied to another field of red clover; however, high nematode burden and challenging weather resulted in over 75% of the field failing to establish.
• A cut of silage taken from clover leys in mid-September; samples are scheduled for analysis in the following month to assess quality and nutritional value.

Next Steps?

• Investigate alternative methods to mitigate nematode issues in clover leys and improve future establishment success.
• Incorporate findings from silage analysis into planning for future clover management and silage production.
