MC-Design has been up and running for over a decade, created after Mark Cragg became disillusioned with working for other people. The design engineer came to the realisation that by setting up his own company he would be able to do the work he wanted, the way he wanted.

Work hard to find something you are good at and when you find it don’t live to work, work to live.

Cragg specialises in areas of automation, robotics, cars, engines, electronics and also hot works such as heat treatment for metals. He is a strong believer that in order to be successful within his industry, it is imperative that individuals have, at the very least, a basic understanding of all aspects of design.

Within this industry, the work changes on a daily basis and this diversity is what Cragg enjoys most about running his own business. He explains – “You can go from working on roulette wheels within the gaming industry on one day, to scanning microscopes and working on boats the next.”

Although salary is something that Cragg believes motivates him to a certain degree, this is not the primary driving force, it is simply the fact that design is his passion and it is clear that he thoroughly enjoys his occupation.
