I became self-employed when I found myself to deep into a violent relationship that left me homeless, jobless and lifeless.
Another organisation encouraged me to bend bridges with family, friends and enroll on an entrepreneurship course.
I hadn't realised that the skill I had learned in 2008 at Coleg Morgannwg prior to meeting my perpetrator would or could become a business opportunity.
I also didn't realise that despite my bad grades at school, I would be able to succeed so much! And actually run a business.
I began my business venture doing mobile work around Cardiff, Bridgend and Rhondda areas. After a hard start to my first year and a monthly wage profit of £33 I decided to re brand, change my business structure. Low cost, high profit, quick turn over business.
And I went on to open a brow bar at my local indoor market in Pontypridd.
It became a success in its first year and moving out to a bigger premises was needed.
With much appreciative help I opened the 3 story salon in Pontypridd Town.
I also have another salon in Blackwood.
I have 5 permanent members of staff and 2 casual.
We offer local schools to send students for work experience.
Being able to see a team grow, provide local jobs and still do the things I love within my company is something I never predicted.
I wish all young people would take the leap and my favourite quote I like to leave with students is:
"To have something you have never had, you must do something you’ve never done"
