Gwin Dylanwad Wine
In a nutshell:
A wholesale wine business also offering a café-bar and wine shop.
Sectors:
Food and Drink
Region:
Gwynedd

When I finished my economics degree at Exeter University, I decided to move to London. After working there for a year, I realised it wasn’t for me, and decided to head to where my heart was: North Wales.

I struggled at first with limited career choices, and after a series of jobs such as a steam train driver, potter and decorator, I decided to follow my passion for cooking. I had several local jobs in hotels and restaurants, before I bought a French restaurant in Dolgellau and became my own boss.

After running the restaurant successfully for 25 years I decided on a new direction, and in 2014 I opened a new café-bar and wholesale wine business called Gwin Dylanwad Wine.

It’s been a long journey; 15 years ago, I started my professional exams in wines and spirits, eventually receiving my diploma, and two years ago the company moved to new premises to run a full-scale wine business.

Success Factors: Being willing to take risks alongside careful planning; creating and sustaining a dedicated and well-trained team; using innovative marketing strategies.
