My current business is ceramic, collectable design and manufacturing and creating original pieces of artwork for retailing via the internet and shops from re-cycled materials. I am also an artist and have been an interior designer, inventor of a very successful security product, and author of a number of books biographical, art-based and fictional.
Work on building your self-confidence. Treasure your hobbies and interests, they may be the basis of a business idea.

What thrills me the most about being my own boss is that I know I can rely on myself to make business decisions and carry them through. I am able to create new products whenever I want and my business is in my total control. I can change direction at a moment’s notice if things go wrong and these days I trust my intuition.
My first year in business was a learning challenge, everything was new and there was so much to learn, lots of mistakes to make.
I have won numerous awards over the years; Female Inventor of the Year, Top Ten British Female inventor 2005, Top Ten Global Female Inventor, special recognition award 2006, SHE magazine Inspiring Woman of the Year 2010, and many more.
I am able to use the knowledge I have accrued over the years to help me over barriers and around obstacles that occur. I would love to help develop a mind-set in young people that self-employment is open to everyone and that the range of business ideas is never-ending and hugely diverse. I believe that innovation and innovative thinking is essential to our development and mind-broadening.
Working with students and witnessing their enthusiasm and wealth of ideas via the ‘Big Ideas’ project is both an honour and thrill.
