Ynyr Mon Pugh

Machynlleth, Powys

Raised in a farming community, Ynyr Pugh developed a deep-rooted passion for agriculture from an early age, inspired by time spent helping his grandfather and through involvement with the YFC. After studying Agriculture at Coleg Glynllifon and Aberystwyth University, he went on to spend six seasons shearing in New Zealand, whilst also working in Norway and France, alongside running his own contract shearing business.

Between seasons, he worked as an agricultural contractor. Now, as a business partner on a 600-acre farm in the Dyfi Valley facilitated through Farming Connect’s ‘Start to Farm’ share-farming scheme, he has taken the lead on implementing key changes to improve productivity and resilience. These include transitioning livestock breeds, increasing stocking rates, introducing rotational grazing and developing environmental infrastructure.  A keen advocate of continuing professional development, Ynyr says he benefits from his ongoing learning through numerous Farming Connect events, services and training opportunities.

“The Agri Academy will be a superb opportunity to learn from the experiences of other progressive, ambitious farmers and business people.”
