Gwen Price

BRECKNOCK

Gwen Price, who was brought up on the family beef and sheep farm in Llangadog, Carmarthenshire, is Farming Connect’s development officer for Breconshire.

Since her mid-teens, Gwen has combined both the business and practical side of farming with academic studies, graduating with a BSc (Hons) and MRes (Master of Research) in agriculture.

Gwen is heavily involved within the family business, but also keeps her own flock of 185 Suffolk and Speckle ewes on a nearby smallholding she has rented.

Gwen is an alumnus of the Farming Connect Business & Innovation Programme, and a previous winner of the ‘under 40s’ category in Lantra Wales’ Learner of the Year awards. She says tapping into the comprehensive range of services provided by Farming Connect is critical as the industry plans for a future outside the EU.

"My role with Farming Connect gives me a perfect opportunity to promote all the services on offer, and share at first-hand how I previously benefited from the subsidised business training, which I found invaluable.

“I’m particularly interested in helping the farmers I meet achieve their potential, both as individuals and in terms of business development, and my key areas of interest will include signposting them to services which can help them with nutrient management planning and improving animal performance.

Gwen believes that many traditional farming families are reluctant to introduce new ways of working and new technologies, even though they often acknowledge that it makes sound commercial sense to do so.

“I know from experience that implementing very simple changes can make huge differences, and Farming Connect can help you every step of the way.”
Gwen is also keen to encourage eligible families to consider seeking support from programmes such as the one-to-one mentoring programme, Venture, which helps match up potential business partners, and succession planning, which encourages and supports family members to plan for the future.
