Rhys Griffiths

Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire

Born and raised on a farm in Carmarthenshire, Rhys Griffiths has recently completed his AS Levels and will return to Ysgol Maes y Gwendraeth in the new academic year to complete his sixth form studies. Rhys has been interested in agriculture since a young age having been surrounded by farming all his life and considers the feeling of fulfilment he gets from tending to animals a real pleasure.

In his spare time, you’re likely to find Rhys cooking up a storm in the kitchen. His enjoyment for cooking, fostered by working in a local restaurant, has led to Rhys opting to study Food and Nutrition at A Level. Rhys is also an experienced tug-of-war competitor having been chosen to represent Wales on an international level. He is also a member of Llanddarog Young Farmers Club (YFC) and enjoys stock judging along with floral arranging and craft-based competitions.

Rhys has previous experience working alongside a blacksmith and relished in the opportunity to learn a new craft from a professional excelling in his field. In the next few years, Rhys envisages himself pursuing a career in the agricultural sector with a particular draw to working with animals, be that on a nutritional or medical level.

“I’m looking forward to making the most of every experience the Agri Academy offers. I especially want to benefit from the industry professionals we will meet, who I firmly believe will be able to expand my understanding and knowledge of areas in the agricultural industry. I consider this programme as a fantastic spring-board to help mapping out my future.”
