Caryl Non Lewis
Llanfair Caereinion, Powys
Caryl Lewis is currently reading Human Geography at Cardiff University and is already looking forward to studying for her Master’s degree in in Agroecology at Harper Adams University.
Always having helped out at the family beef and sheep farm in Llanfair Caereinion, Caryl has also undertaken a number of work experience placements with a particular focus on renewable energy, agriculture and the environment. She says that a recent visit to Brussels, travelling with a member of the European Economic & Social Committee has further fuelled her interest in agricultural policy and development.
An active member of her local YFC, she was elected junior member of the year for Montgomeryshire and came third in the junior member of Wales competition. A keen sportswoman and charity volunteer, Caryl, who was deputy head girl of Caereinion High School and captain of the school netball team, local club and Powys Netball Club, also won an award for over 50 hours of voluntary work training and coaching netball.
“During my work experience with Welsh Government, I had a brief taste of what it would be like working as part of the decision making and policy processes.
“I hope that by being part of the Agri Academy Rural Leadership Programme, I will learn the skills I need to contribute to this agenda myself in future roles, especially as we head into the uncertain territory of leaving the EU and need to plan for the challenges and opportunities of future environmental and agricultural issues in Wales.”
