Glasnant Morgan

Talybont-on-Usk, Powys

Stanton (Glasnant Morgan 1466)

Glasnant Morgan farms in Talybont on Usk in partnership with his wife. In 1991 this mainly beef and sheep family business was divided, at which time Glasnant took over and rented an adjoining farm.  Since then, the couple have expanded the business further and the total area owned or rented is now 400 acres.

In addition to running a herd of suckler cows and 800 breeding ewes, Glasnant has also taken the business in a new direction by diversifying into green energy, introducing solar, a biomass boiler and other hydro-electric renewable energy systems. He has planted woodlands and 20 acres of whole crop swedes which feed the stock.

Glasnant, an approved Farming Connect mentor, is heavily involved with local community life and rural organisations. He is a past chair of Brecon and Radnor NFU; a Fellow of the Council for Awards of Royal Agricultural Societies; a member of his local grassland society and a previous runner-up in the UK Silver Lapwing Award for the environment.   He also hosts several farm visits a year with an annual visit from New Zealand farmers through Field Farm Tours.

“I was invited to speak to Agri Academy participants some years ago, since when it’s always been on my radar to apply myself.

“I’ve enjoyed meeting so many people involved in agriculture through my various roles and I’m very aware that as the next generation takes over, I want and need to take more time off. I am sure that being part of the Rural Leadership Programme will help me develop my skills further and encourage me to stand as a councillor in our next council election.”
