Spanish based Digitanimal, a company that offers innovative integral solutions to farmers in over 50 countries is the focus of this Zoom Around the World episode.

Digitanimal was established after the loss of 10 animals from one of the co-founders' family farm in Avila, Spain during the summer of 2015.

Now with over 4,000 customers around the world, Digitanimal uses GPS and IoT (Internet of Things) technology to locate livestock and to monitor animal welfare helping farmers control their herds , especially those who graze vast, open areas.

In this episode, we meet Miguel Angel who specialises in rearing adult bovine in the National Park of Guadarrama.

With stock roaming an area of over more than 1,500ha in this Spanish region, Miguel has been relying on Digitanimals innovative and pioneering technology since 2015 to track his Oxen herds' location and also to monitor their welfare.

The technology works by placing GPS tracking collars on the herd which sends data directly to the Digitanimal app on a mobile device. This data enables Miguel to precisely locate the herds whereabouts, track their grazing activity and monitor their temperature.

Miguel also utilises this technology to monitor the herds weight gains and also effectively manage grazing patterns enabling him to analyse productivity and profitability.

This technology is also currently being used in Wales by six farmers as part of an EIP project investigating if the use of technology can mitigate the challenges posed by grazing livestock in open grazing land or mountains.

Watch this episode to hear how the Digitanimal technology is able to help the industry to respond to the challenges of animal welfare accountability and traceability as well as improving farmers efficiency, productivity and profitability!
