Tailoring the nutritional requirements of ewes depending on their stage of production is important for successful flock performance, with good ewe nutrition impacting on lamb survival, growth rates and ewe and lamb mortality rates.
The varying quality of forage available after a difficult summer and the increased cost of imported concentrates will make formulating rations for in-lamb ewes as important as ever this year. Farming Connect is hosting a series of events across Wales aiming to provide information and develop a greater understanding of the nutritional requirements of ewes in mid to late pregnancy.
The events will focus on the need to ensure ewes are fed according to their needs to optimise health and welfare and maximise lamb performance. Managing ewes in different levels of condition, forward planning for post-lambing management and minimising lambing losses will also be discussed at the events by speakers John Vipond, Lesley Stubbings and Kate Phillips.
The events will take place as follows:
