The use of thermal fogging disinfectant in broiler chicken houses pre-stocking to reduce instances of enterococcus lameness

The project seeks to significantly improve broiler health, welfare, and performance by implementing a novel pre-placement thermal fogging disinfection protocol using Halamid in both broiler houses. This aims to provide chicks with the cleanest possible start, thereby reducing antibiotic use and mitigating issues like enterococcus lameness. The effectiveness of this farm-wide change will be rigorously evaluated by comparing key performance indicators such as antibiotic usage, mortality rates, and feed conversion ratios from 4-5 subsequent crops against four years of historical data, ultimately determining if this enhanced disinfection method can boost bird performance and reduce lameness

The project will also contribute to the Sustainable Land Management outcomes including:

  • High Animal Health and Welfare
  • Resource efficiency
