What is the best way to supplement trace minerals in growing/ finishing lambs?
This project at a farm historically deficient in cobalt and iodine aims to determine the most efficient method for supplementing these trace minerals in Easy Care lambs that are not creep-fed. Four groups of up to 25 weaned lambs will be established: a control group with no supplementation, a group receiving an Animax Lamb Bolus, another receiving an oral supplement, and a final group receiving a long-acting injectable supplement (Troy Vitamin B12 / Flexidine). Six random lambs from each group will undergo fortnightly blood tests, and all lambs will be wormed at weaning if necessary to ensure that worm burden does not influence performance or trace element levels.
The project will also contribute to the Sustainable Land Management outcomes including:
- High AHW
- Reduced GHG emissions
- Resource efficient
