Role Model, Ambassador and Speaker Privacy Notice

The Welsh Government will be the Data Controller for the personal data you provide to Big Ideas Wales. The data will be processed in line with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
This privacy notice explains how your personal data will be processed fairly and lawfully and in a transparent manner. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our privacy practices.
When you apply to be a Role Model or an Ambassador with Big Ideas Wales, within the Business Wales Programme, you are expressing an interest in working with us, to deliver workshops and in some instances one to one mentoring sessions in line with the Role Model Code of Conduct. The data you provide is used to assess your eligibility to become a role model, to form the basis of an online role model profile which is featured on Home | Business Wales - Big Ideas (gov.wales) and where relevant to pay the role model fees. You may also be approached for additional promotional activities such as being filmed or interviewed, you can decline these requests.
Your data will be processed by the Welsh Government and the following service providers to enable the Welsh Government to perform the contract:
• Careers Wales who deliver Big Ideas Wales activities within Schools
• Business Wales, who are responsible for Role Model training and induction and delivery of Big Ideas Wales activities within Colleges, Universities and Community Groups
Your name, email address and telephone number will sometimes be shared with the teacher, tutor, enterprise champion or outside of education group leader who has requested your services for coordination purposes.
The data will be sent to the Welsh Government and in some instances to parties working on their behalf, and used in the following ways.
- To monitor and report on the number of individuals and enterprises involved in the project and the number of people from different groups (e.g. different ages, genders and ethnicities).
- By the Welsh Government and other public bodies, to carry out the funding, planning, monitoring and to produce statistical publications.
- By approved social research organisations, to carry out research, analysis or equal opportunities monitoring.
- For audit and verification purposes.
You can opt out of being a Role Model at any time, but your data is retained for the duration of the Big Ideas Wales programme plus 10 years for audit purposes.
If you are ineligible to become a role model your data is retained on the Welsh Government database for the duration of the Big Ideas Wales programme to carry out our public task and in the exercise of our official authority.
Changes to this policy
The Welsh Government may make changes to this privacy policy at any time. Changes will be posted here and are effective immediately. When changes occur to this policy we will contact you on the email address we have recorded in your account to enable you to review the new version.
Your rights
Under the data protection legislation, You have the right to:
- Access to the Personal data that we are processing about you;
- Require us to rectify inaccuracies in that data;
- The right (in certain circumstances) to object to or restrict processing;;
- The right (in certain circumstances) for your data to be ‘erased’;
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) who is our independent regulator for data protection
