We specialise in business start-ups and advise on and prepare business plans, for both new and expanding businesses. I offer a truly local and personal service to small businesses, and as a result, a high percentage of my business is from personal referrals.

I cannot emphasise the importance of preparation. You can never do enough research before you start your own business. All experience of the working world is useful, even if at the time it may seem irrelevant.

I am a qualified Fellow Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians, with over twenty five years experience in accountancy general practice. After originally training with Deloittes, most of my working life has been with smaller local businesses.

I have a wide experience of all sectors of business, especially the construction industry and farming community, also others such as retail, public houses, health professionals, property management and many more, everything from opera singers to farriers!

The hardest thing I find is looking for new clients, as people are often reluctant to leave their current accountant. I have up to now relied on people coming on personal recommendation and local advertising, but I have recently began networking to try and gain more clients.

I love the flexibility of running my own business, however it can work both ways, and I do end up working late evening and weekend at busy times.

I bring to the project not only my own experience in business, but the experience of seeing many, many start-ups, some fail, some go from strength to strength, but very few regret having a go.
