I left university in 1997 and became a teacher of physical education in a comprehensive school for 15 years before I decided to change career path. My wife and I decided that we wanted/needed our own cleaner when my son was 2 years old. We were two hard working teachers and were time poor. I realised that this was a potential money-spinner and I started to think about possible options.

I liked the idea of being my own boss and not following the instruction of school managers who I no longer respected. I also wanted to spend more time with my family and to have a better work-life balance.

I love having the freedom of time. My life is no longer run by a school bell. I spend far more quality time with my family than ever before. I can work as hard or as little as I want and I have only myself balance to answer to.

I thoroughly enjoy what I do for a living and would encourage every young person to challenge the traditional school-college-university-job route and to think about the possibilities and rewards that come from successfully running your own business.
