In a nutshell:
Kickboxing teacher and restaurant owner
Sectors:
Food and Drink
Region:
Gwynedd

I was working for other people and got made redundant and I was feeling despondent about it. I fancied changing my perspective, so, started to think laterally about my career, I wanted to be my own boss.

Be aware that it’s a lot of hard work, put the hours into it and enjoy the fruits of your labours!

Jake Fitzpatrick - Fitzpatrick's Café

We’ve been established for 11 years and its mostly local customers and British motorcycle enthusiasts. I also teach Wu Shu Kwan Chinese Kick Boxing/kung-fu. I decided I wanted a shop everybody needs to eat, so, a café/restaurant seemed like a good idea to aim towards. I took the kick boxing up as a hobby and I enjoy teaching it.

We’re weathering the recession and this year we are building a balcony on the back of the building overlooking the River Ogwen, which will seat another 30 customers. We currently employ six people.

Life’s a challenge in general, I enjoy many things about it. There’s a lot to be said of the benefits, which far outweigh the negatives.
