Govindas Foods Ltd takes its name from the Sanskrit word meaning ‘protector of cows’. It’s a phrase that sums up the vegetarian ethos behind the products as Jodi’s meat-free diet was her main motivation for starting the business.

Right from the off, one product began out-stripping the others: her infamous dairy-free cheesecake. Jodi began making increasingly large batches to cater for the demand, until one day she received an order so big she had to rapidly move her operations to a factory in order to deliver the quantities.

And the rest is history: Govindas Foods Ltd now supplies the four biggest UK health food retailers and exports to over 21 European countries.

Jodi attributes much of her success to the support she’s received, particularly through Business Support Wales. Her Graduate Start Up business mentor was responsible for setting up some crucial networking opportunities, as well as helping her attain a Graduate Start-Up bursary which proved to be a vital financial base during those early touch-and-go months.

What few customers will realise about Jodi is that she’s still in the final year of a Business and Marketing degree. She’s managing to finish her course at the same time as run the business, a feat that’s earned her the title of Young Entrepreneur 2009 awarded by the University of Glamorgan.
