In a nutshell:
A busy welsh Publishers

In 1980, I set up Carreg Gwalch Press in Llanrwst, which remains one of the busiest publishers in Wales and the printing house for the needs of the surrounding areas. In 2006, my wife, Llio, and I opened and art gallery – Tonnau – in Pwllheli and in 2011 I was one of the 12 directors who set up Cwrw Llŷn.

The desire for independence to do my own thing and to contribute to a field I am interested in was the motivation for starting my own business. All new businesses start in a hut in my experience!

The fact that my parents ventured to open a Welsh language book shop in Llanrwst in 1955 sparked my imagination throughout my childhood.

Not everything is sweetness and light in business. Sometimes you have to be willing to work from unsuitable places and work long hours. But in spite of that, being my own boss does give me the freedom to organise my work and the pleasure of seeing the finished product.

No business is an island. It is part of a circle or knot of other businesses within a town or an area or across Wales. So it’s important to have good neighbours – support others and they will support you.
