I started writing at around 8 years old, not because I wanted to be a renowned poet or speaker, simply because it was the only way I knew how to express the difficult things I was going through. I spent my teens doing the same and it became the staple therapy and outlet I needed. After some mental health struggles I decided it was time to take the leap and pursue a pathway that was supportive of me, my emotional wellbeing and passion. Since 2017 I have gone from writing at home and penning the odd commission, to being a regular writer for BBC Sesh, racking up millions of social media video views, signing a publishing deal with Verve Poetry Press and working with amazing organisations like The Bevan Foundation, Chwarae Teg, Ty Pawb and Prince’s Trust. I have also been featured and interviewed by various TV and Radio channels such as; BBC Two & three, BBC Radio Wales, ITV Wales, BBC Wales News and Calon FM.
I am a keen social activist and use my platform to raise awareness of key social issues and injustices and have since become a trusted voice across Wales; often looked to by various political and social organisations for an impartial opinion and influence.
Spoken word poetry has provided me the privilege of performing across the UK at some amazing events, whilst giving me the opportunity to mix my passion for football with my work. In 2019 I performed in front of 7000 fans at The Racecourse on matchday, using a poem I'd written dedicated to the club to mark International Women's Day. Since then I have developed a strong relationship with the club and new owners, now heavily involved in developing and managing positive community projects around Wrexham with their support.
I am in partnership with Wales International to promote and engage in raising the profile of Wales, to encourage appreciation and interaction with the wider communities of the world and the many Welsh communities that exist globally.
I was honoured to be made trustee at The Venture Playground in Caia Park, Wrexham in 2018. A vital hub for children and young people to express themselves freely, a playground I spent much time at myself growing up.
I enjoy running workshops for young people and adults in various educational settings to promote emotional wellbeing and open discussion regarding mental health, by utilising spoken word as a positive, accessible outlet of expression as well as showcasing the many faces of spoken word that do not fit the rigid poetry narrative so often seen. I am influenced by artists such as George the Poet, Eminem, Tupac Shakur and Stacey Ann Chin. The realness and rawness of the way they tell their difficult stories, and their use of sound and words to do so, never fails to inspire me.
