I work in the outdoor industry as an outdoor activity instructor. It's fair to say that I have an infectious passion for climbing and instructing helped me broaden the experiences of children aged between 8 and 14, whilst developing my group management and leadership skills and giving me valuable experience in the outdoor industry.
Seeking more adventurous activities I joined the Territorial Army. Grasping the openings available within the Armed Forces I showed my determination to succeed and quickly gained qualifications that enabled me to take soldiers into the mountaineering environment, with my Regiment’s Senior Climbing Instructor. This was quite an achievement at a young age and proved my determination as I was still in full time employment.
In 2004 I was selected for the Everest West Ridge Development Team, the much publicised expedition to climb the peak. Although the expedition did not make the final summit attempt due to bad weather, the experiences of being a vital team member responsible for my own, and my team’s safety, in such a high risk, fluid environment were invaluable lessons.
For my efforts on the expedition and my continual commitment to the Territorial Army, I was awarded the Cobra Trophy for best London Reservist in 2007. I have a keen eye for safety and consistently positive approach and commitment to the “team” and it's always greatly admired and appreciated by all whom I have worked with me.
Working as an Industrial Rope Access Technician I've enjoyed a rewarding self-employed career. His professionalism at the work place fiercely regulated and I was awarded the largest and most technically demanding projects in the world to date, The Atomium in Brussels. Still a keen reservist I gained the highest rock climbing instructor award within the military and I'm now a Senior Instructor for over 500 people. I believe I have a natural ability to implement detailed plans and act on my own initiative these skills have helped me to run mountaineering related activities in the UK and throughout Europe.
Further pushing my own personal development, I've taken part and organised the feeding logistics to support an exploratory mountaineering expedition within the Arctic Circle. I couldn’t believe my luck when I was later offered the opportunity to represent the British Services on an expedition to the fifth highest mountain in the world, Makalu. The team successfully attempted a British first, but unfortunately did this without me, as I had decided to remain in the UK and focus y efforts on Boulders.
In 2007 I teamed up with Robert Lawrence, and began planning to construct and operate Boulders. When the funding package was successfully secured, I project managed the construction of Boulders Climbing Centre in Cardiff. On opening the doors in August 2008 I fulfilled the role of Operations Director until in 2014 and then I took over as Managing Director.
