In a nutshell:
Art workshops and events for school children and communities
Sectors:
Creative Services
Region:
Swansea

We specialise in running art workshops and events for school children and communities. These are extracurricular activities and link in with the foundation phase for early years and out of classroom learning for KS 2, 3, and 4 in school grounds, nature reserves and beaches.

Think about how your business could help society and the community as well as providing an income. The more ethical a business is, the more likely it is to succeed and be something that one is proud of.

Sara Holden - Sculpture by the Sea UK Ltd

I worked in London in Marketing and Sales for many years before moving to Swansea with my family. I began volunteering at my daughter’s school with various art projects, where my work was noticed by the Art Education Department of the Council who gave me paid art residencies with schools. As these increased, I was able to support myself as an artist and build a small business.

Being freelance and running your own business requires you to have a certain amount of confidence, ambition and guts to be able to the take risks to do it. The ongoing current recession has been a significant setback as we rely on funding to a large extent to run our workshops.

What I love most about being my own boss is that I can follow what interest me most, it’s up to me which direction I take, and I can feel directly responsible for any successes that are achieved.

As one of nine children, I was taught to love nature, be resourceful and follow my dreams. My desire to share my love of art and nature with others in a positive way benefits both people and place.
