Reuben Powell

Llandrindod Wells, Powys

Reuben Powell is an ambitious and forward-thinking young farmer, nominated Farmers Weekly Young Farmer of the Year in 2023. A partner in his family’s 700-acre beef and sheep farm near Newbridge on Wye, Reuben is focused on building a resilient and diversified future for the business he manages alongside his dad and younger brother. Formerly chair of his local YFC, he is a member of the Brecon & Radnor NFU Next Generation, and a ‘Farmer Time’ volunteer.

Inspired by work experience in New Zealand, in 2019 Reuben took the bold step of establishing a 100,000-bird broiler unit, 15 miles from home. He secured a major mortgage to fund the venture, which is powered by renewable energy including ground source heating, solar panels, and battery storage. His focus on sustainability and innovation led to the Aviagen Gold Award and participation in Tesco’s Sustainable Farming Roundtable.

In 2025, Reuben achieved a long-held ambition by purchasing his great uncle’s 140-acre farm. He plans to diversify into agri-tourism, offering educational, environmentally focused visitor experiences.

Balancing profitability and sustainability remain Reuben’s priority as he manages significant financial commitments while navigating evolving industry regulations.

“The Agri Academy will enable me to share ideas, gain a new perspective on the challenges facing our industry, and create lasting connections with likeminded, progressive business people.”
