About the Landowner: 

We have reached a stage in life where we would like to transition from full time physical farming to sharing our knowledge and experience with a young forward-thinking person who is interested in applying modern techniques and using the data collected to build the business further.

We have no dependents therefore there will be opportunity for the right candidate to take over the farm eventually.

Our main activity is the sale of breeding stock. For the last 35 years we have been passionate about performance recording our sheep. For several years we have been one of the top recorded Texel flocks in the UK. We have been using these performance figures to increase the genetic quality and commercial efficiency of our sheep. 

Goals for the next 5 years:

• We would be open to change or expand the business such as renting additional land or adding other enterprises 

About the farm: 

Location: Near Pencader, Carmarthenshire

Land area available:  Approximately 128 acres (52 hectares) of owned land in one ring-fenced area where all the land is permanent grassland, with soil tests taken fairly recently and rectified as needed with prescribed lime applications. Fences are in good repair. 

Infrastructure available: The farm buildings are located in close proximity to the farmhouse. The buildings comprise of the following:

• Sheep shed - 85ft x 110ft with sheep handling facilities and housing pens for the majority of the ewes for lambing.
• Sheep polytunnel - 32ft x 65ft scheduled for repair after storm damage
• Hay barn with a lean-to - currently mainly used for storage
• Isolation shed

Livestock available:

• 120 pedigree Texel ewes’ performance recorded flock
• 40 Charmoise ewes - currently in the Welsh Sheep Genetic Programme
• 100 Texel cross ewes

Machinery available:

• A wide variety of implements are owned on the farm, and the provider is willing to invest in any other machinery needed that would be worthwhile on the farm
• Tractors x 2
• Flatbed, stock trailer x 2, bike trailer

• Sheep handling systems and equipment
• A contractor is used for reseeding and forage cropping

The local area: The farm is located in a rural area, where both the Welsh and English language is commonly heard and spoken. Pencader, Llandysul and the town of Carmarthen are all located within 30 minutes.
