Ffion Storer Jones
Dolanog, Powys
Ffion Storer Jones grew up on the family farm in Montgomeryshire. With an aptitude for science, she originally planned to study medicine and work in developing countries. A longstanding interest in international issues resulted in her volunteering with a local charity focusing on sustainable agriculture. Travel in South America and Asia gave her an international perspective on health and farming, leading her to switch courses in her final year of university. Her career since has involved her in international governmental projects with a particular focus on Fair Trade. Ffion worked within the Hub Cymru Africa partnership in Cardiff before joining the Fair Trade Advocacy Office in Brussels as a communications and advocacy officer.
Ffion hopes being part of the Rural Leadership Programme will help her find a public platform or role which enables her to promote collaboration and solidarity between farmers and their wider communities, and to share learning and innovation within the food industry and its systems.
“I’m passionate about citizens being informed and supported to make choices that support a sustainable food system where healthy, good quality and sustainably produced food is available for all, including farmers”, says Ffion.
“I want to reinforce the message that citizens have the power to influence change and I think being part of the Rural Leadership Programme will be a fantastic opportunity to gain greater insight into how food systems are shaped, at national and global level.
