Gareth Evan Lewis
Llanidloes, Powys
Gareth Lewis combines his role as procurement officer for one of Europe’s foremost red meat processing companies with farming alongside his parents in Llanidloes, where he is business partner in the family beef and sheep farm. Already responsible for managing the enterprise, Gareth recently took over as head of holding, and is looking forward to developing the business further.
In his spare time, he enjoys his involvement with the YFC in Montgomeryshire both at club and county level and particularly values the opportunity to assist other young farmers to help them understand what the market needs and expects from the red meat sector in Wales.
Gareth’s philosophy on life is that to remain positive, we need to surround ourselves with ‘radiators’ not ‘drains’ and he believes it’s essential to focus on the opportunities and concerns within our control.
“My aim is to concentrate on the positives not the negatives and I’m hopeful that being part of the Rural Leadership Programme will inspire me, introduce me to new networks and give me the skills I need to get involved with the issues that will influence the future direction of our industry in the years ahead.
“I am already putting into practice daily the skills and knowledge I gained through being part of the Business & Innovation programme back in 2014, so I fully appreciate the value of the Agri Academy programme and I feel very fortunate to participate again.
