Gwawr Medi Parry
Moelfre, Anglesey
Gwawr Parry farmed alongside her late father at the family beef and sheep smallholding at Moelfre, Anglesey since he considered her ‘old enough to catch a ewe’! It was a background that led her to graduate from the University of Nottingham with a BSc in Agriculture and a determination to work in the industry.
A longstanding interest in sheep resulted in her breeding and showing her own small flock of pedigree Texels. Her first role after university was with one of the leading animal genetics companies before she joined Hybu Cig Cymru where she now works as a flock genetics officer.
Previously a member of Uwchaled YFC and a volunteer with Age Concern Cymru, Gwawr is an active member of the community. Her most recent achievement was completing the Slateman Triathlon in Capel Curig in memory of her father, raising money for the Christie’s Hospital, Manchester. She is passionate about Welsh rugby for both men and ladies and has previously represented both her university side and the Abergele ladies’ team.
“I recently started my own business with help from my sister, which includes expanding the flock at home. My long-term aim is to contribute to shaping the future sustainability of the industry, especially for younger farmers. I am sure that being part of the Rural Leadership Programme, with its formula of learning new skills, study visits and networking will be an amazing experience which will give me the confidence to achieve some of these ambitions.”
