Waterlogged fields for weeks or months on end have resulted in damaged soil structure, weed encroachment and poaching for many farm and forestry business. 

Farming Connect has arranged a series of on-farm events, located throughout Wales, when visiting soil and grassland experts will discuss the impact of waterlogged fields and provide solutions for rectifying the drainage, compaction, nutrient and weed management issues which are causing problems for many businesses in reduced grass yield and quality which has a direct effect on productivity of the land.

Solutions for under-performing wet or newly drained areas and how best to deal with them will be led by Charlie Morgan or Chris Duller, both renowned soil and grassland specialists.

Farming Connect Technical Development Manager Dewi Hughes said that the findings from recent soil sampling carried out by Farming Connect’s team of development officers have provided useful data which have ensured that many farmers who attended the recent round of soil clinics are already addressing the problem in the most cost and time-effective ways.
