Marc Griffiths
Llansantffraid, Powys
An Agricultural Business Management graduate from the University of Reading, Marc Griffiths produces beef, lamb and cereals on the family farm at Cilthrew.
Working alongside his father, Wynn, Marc is continually improving his soils and grassland to
capture as much as possible from the 120 hectare land base, inspired by some of the knowledge he gained while working in New Zealand after graduating.
As a result of improved grassland management, he has been able to increase the farm’s stocking rate.
“Reducing costs of production is the key message here for the future of our farm business, but a race to the bottom is not the answer, providing quality produce is,’’ he says.
“My plans for our farm business are to continue to develop it to ensure its success in these challenging but also exciting times ahead.’’
To help inform this vision Marc has embraced opportunities to learn more, participating in the Tesco Future Farmer Foundation 2019, as a member of NFU Next Generation Group and through Farming Connect sheep and grassland discussion groups.
He now has an eye on diversification to generate further revenue streams to spread business risk and to inject variety into his day-to-day work.
Marc sees his participation in the Business & Innovation Programme as a chance to challenge his thought process to help develop those ideas going forward.
