A masterclass created to equip farmers with useful skills and knowledge to grow, maintain and graze herbal leys is being launched by Farming Connect.

Master Herbal, the latest in a series of free masterclasses run by Farming Connect, will guide growers on how to successfully establish and manage diverse mixes that benefit livestock, soil health and the environment.

Participants in the one-day course will be shown how to visually assess soil health to understand limiters to productivity and advised how the situation can be improved by introducing diverse species including grasses, legumes and herbs.

How to plan a herbal ley system appropriate to a farming operation will be covered too.

Once leys have been established, they have to be managed therefore participants will be given guidance by experts on grazing strategies that optimise animal performance and plant longevity.

The course will take place in Newtown on 26th of October and in Abergele on 27 October 2023, running from 10.30am – 3.30pm.

The deadline for applications is 23 October at 10.30am with applicants asked to supply a range of information with their application to allow the course to be tailored to specific requirements.

Applicants must be registered with Farming Connect.
