This course is designed for: Farm managers, staff and managers in rural businesses.
Overview: This three-day course is designed for persons new to people management to learn and develop effective management skills that are essential in the rural workplace. They will be introduced to, and will discuss and test different management theories, practices and concepts, which will relate to their work environment. The course combines trainer led discussions, theory, group exercises, and questionnaires
Aim: To provide clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a manager and develop the relevant skills to perform effectively and efficiently in this role. To understand the different management styles and how to adapt your style to the situation to produce the required outcomes by effective communication practices.
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
•Understand rural culture and how to manage and approach change
•Develop good communication skills and interpersonal skills, and apply them within the team environment
•Relate management theories, concepts and principles to their work and themselves
•Understand their role in staff learning and development, and the importance of developing staff skills
•Recognise the importance of motivation for themselves, and team dynamics
•Feel confident to delegate successfully
•Develop problem solving and decision-making techniques
•Develop planning techniques and time management tools specific to farms and rural businesses
Method: The course will present you with a series of concepts and best practice management ideas along with opportunities to reflect on, discuss and put into practice those ideas.
