About the Landowner
The farmer is looking for a joint venture where the other party will supply all the labour and day to day management of the dairy herd and replacement heifers. The provider will remain responsible for the provision of forage for the dairy herd and will run the organic arable side of the business. The provider will be involved with strategic dairy enterprise decisions but the day to day management of the cows and heifers will sit with the other party. There is possibility of an equity share of the dairy business in the future.
About the Farm
Location (nearest town): Chester
Land area available: Around 700 acres in total farmed. Some of the land is owned, some rented and some in contract farm agreement where the provider is the contractor. Some of the land is away from the dairy unit and is used for youngstock, silage and some cereals. The grazing platform is 150 acres of free draining alluvial silt, and cows generally get turned out in February.
Infrastructure available: 30/30 herringbone parlour with auto ID, cluster flush and shedding gate. There are 267 cubicles available for milkers, and 80 cubicles for dry cows and heifers. The cubicles have auto scrapers, mats and shavings for bedding. There is also a straw yard for calving cows at the dairy unit. At the other location, a 170 cubicle shed is rented along with a slurry lagoon.
Livestock available: Organic dairy herd of 250 cows, currently supplying to Calon Wen.
Machinery available: 4 tractors are available, with 1 for scraping and 1 for the mixer wagon. There are also 2 JCB handlers available on the farm.
Accommodation for the Seeker: Accommodation can be discussed and might be available.
