Elin Haf Williams

South Montgomeryshire

Elin Haf Williams is the Farming Connect development officer for South Montgomeryshire.

Elin spends much of her free time helping out at the family beef and sheep farm in Llanwrin, near Machynlleth where she enjoys getting involved with all aspects of the business which has a flock of mainly Welsh mountain ewes together with a herd of suckler cows.

After attending Ysgol Bro Ddyfi, Elin went on to read geography with elements of agriculture at Aberystwyth University.  Soon after graduating, she was appointed to a role with Wales YFC at their Llanelwedd head office, where she held the post of operations officer for rural affairs and youth work.   After 14 months she joined Natural Resources Wales to work on a short-term project promoting best practice in reducing agricultural pollution on dairy farms.

Elin has a wide circle of contacts in Llanwrin and the surrounding area and is a very active member of Bro Ddyfi YFC.

She is optimistic that with her agricultural background, she can help farm and forestry businesses in her area to tap into all that’s available through Farming Connect.

“My role is to signpost farmers and foresters in my area to a package of services which meets their specific requirements for both personal and business skills enabling them to perform to optimum levels across all levels of working.

“There’s so much support, advice and training available on a very wide range of topics ranging from improving the quality of soil and grazing management to animal health issues and from business and financial planning to benchmarking projects.”

Elin regularly attends Welshpool market and also manages a number of topic-led discussion groups on beef, sheep and dairy which encourage members to explore new ideas and meet other farmers.
