Optimising calving age and interval, and ensuring cow health and fertility are some of the ways of improving efficiency in the suckler herd that can lead to increased profitability.

Join Farming Connect at Lan Farm, Cynwyl Elfed, where Ian Pritchard, of SRUC will discuss the results of a cow efficiency project, including data collected over four years at Lan and calving heifers at two years old. Helen Scott, of CVS Vets, Carmarthen, will focus on maintaining reproductive efficiency and the impact of eradicating BVD on animal production.

Farmer Phil Jones will also lead a discussion on the use of two different methods of heat detection for AI, and there will be an opportunity to view the herd prior to weaning and the collection of further data.
