Rebecca John
Rebecca John is in her second year of studies at Aberystwyth University where she’s reading Agriculture with Business Management. A farmers’ daughter from Wolfscastle near Haverfordwest, Rebecca enjoys working with the dairy cows, beef cattle and sheep on her own family farm but when time permits, also enjoys work experience stints with other local farm businesses.
Her main passion however, is showing livestock! She’s had this interest for over six years and many families now ask her to help them show their stock, particularly Welsh Black cattle and Charolais sheep. Somewhere along the way, this busy student is also building up her own flock of pedigree Kerry Hill sheep, which she hopes to show this summer.
Rebecca who won ‘student of the year’ two years in succession when a student at Coleg Sir Gar in Gelli Aur, is a keen rower and currently Welsh officer for Aberystwyth University’s rowing club.
Rebecca’s long-term ambition is to either take over the family farm or find a role working in animal genetics. In the meantime, she would like to visit New Zealand, Canada and Australia to widen her knowledge of the farming industry in other countries.
“Applying for the Agri Academy was one of the best decisions I’ve made! I’m going to take up more opportunities that come my way and also look for opportunities myself. The Agri Academy has made me think about my future in the industry.”
