What made you decide to become a farmer?

Both our families have been farming for generations, I think we were born into it!

What couldn’t you go without on the farm?

My plate meter.  I measure all the grazing fields at least weekly during the grazing season.  It’s essential to keep enough good grass in front of the cows.

What is your favourite time of year and why?

Spring.  I love when the new calves are born, every day is like Christmas! The day the cows go out is the best day of the year.

What’s the most useful bit of advice you’ve ever been given?

Every farm is different. What works somewhere else might not work for you.

What are the key areas you wish to focus on as an Our Farms Network farmer?

●       Is once a day (OAD) milking a viable option to reduce workload and improve quality of life?
●       What improvements can we make to increase our milk from forage?
●       Can we improve the fertility of the dairy herd?

Where would you like to see the farm business in 5 - 10 years?

Still milking in a simple system, that we can manage ourselves, with plenty of time off!
