Focus Site Project: Iceberg Diseases in Sheep
Project aim:
The main aim of this project is to fully understand the true health status of the flock at College Farm; identify the level of these diseases in the flock and if found, aim to manage and control appropriately. By working very closely with the local vet and vet practice, identifying these diseases will allow sensible quarantine decisions as well as improved flock health management to prevent the further spread of these diseases. Following the outcomes of all tests, a protocol to control and prevent their wider spread will be developed. By improving the health status of this flock, productivity and efficiency will hopefully increase. Additionally to this, we hope this project will highlight and advocate best practice when it comes to buying in stock/rams to decrease the chances of introducing further diseases into the flock. These would include informed purchasing and enhanced biosecurity and culling protocol.
