Focus Site Project: BVD testing and eradication

Project aims:

  • Work that will be carried out will follow the newly formed Gwaredu BVD program. The ambition of the Gwaredu BVD project is to collect blood samples from eligible animals on TT 1 and have the results ready by TT2, we aim to incorporate this principle within this project to demonstrate how it can be achieved.
  • Additionally Farming Connect will highlight and advocate best practice to ensure that BVD is kept out of the herd, management interventions would include: informed purchasing, enhanced biosecurity and vaccination protocol and offer advice on implementing other key areas identified within their active health plan.
  • Bedwyr Jones is also eager to assess the efficiency of his suckler cow herd in order to see where improvements can be made to improve herd profitability in the future.
