Project Update: Lambing now well underway at Glanmynys demonstration site – April 2020

Lambing is now underway at Glanmynys demonstration site near Llandovery. 550 out of 900 Welsh ewes lambed outside during the first week of April, taking advantage of drier and warmer weather conditions.

According to Peredur Owen, who share-farms alongside owner Carine Kidd, lambing is going well so far with minimal losses and only a few occasional cases of prolapse in ewes and joint-ill in lambs.

“The weather has helped significantly – especially as we’re lambing Welsh ewes crossed with Easycare rams outside.”

“I was originally sceptical that lambs wouldn’t have sufficient wool cover to cope with the elements, however, so far, this isn’t an issue. The lambs are vigorous and healthy and are on their feet suckling straight away.”
