Duration: 1 day

Delivery Method: Theory and Practical

Introduction:

This course is of particular relevance to individuals and organisations in the landscape
maintenance, facilities management, property maintenance and amenity sectors

Overview in brief:

Due to the extensive spread and/or dominance of a number of invasive plant species in the
environment, there is an increasing need to implement appropriate methods of control.

The finer details:

Invasive species can dominate a habitat and effectively eliminate many native wild plants from
the habitat. Invasive plants can create monocultures affecting grazing land, woodland, urban
environments and areas of wildlife interest.

Japanese knotweed can damage structures and its presence can prejudice property sales &
mortgage applications.

Giant Hogweed causes severe blistering/burns to skin if brushed against.
Some of these plants have few or no natural enemies in the UK.

The need for effective methods of control are required by Local Authorities, Farmers, Conservation Groups, Utilities, Natural Resources Wales and Homeowners etc.
